NAAFS "Night of Champions 2010"

On Saturday, December 4, 2010, two of Griffonrawl's warriors will enter the cage at the historic Gray's Armory in Cleveland, Ohio with each having the chance to make NAAFS history!
Donny 'Eagle Eye' Walker looks to be the first NAAFS professional to successfully defend his belt. No champion, regardless of weight class, has done so. Donny will be taking on the rising star, Billy Vaugh who is coming of three successful wins and called for his shot at the title in Columbus in September.
'Bonesaw' George Comer looks to be the first amateur to win NAAFS titles in successive years, but George has an even more unique opportunity than simply repeating as champion. The 2009 NAAFS amateur Lightweight champion looks to gain the 2010 Welterweight championship as he takes on Evolve MMA's Josh Oppenheimer.

NAAFS Full Contact Kickboxing

On Saturday November 13th, 2010 the NAAFS will host its annual Kickboxing show at Tangiers Entertainment Center in Akron, Ohio. This event will feature three GriffonRawl fighters as Bryon McCroskey is set to be the main event and will be joined by stable mates Ryan Lose & Kevin Peterson. This will be all three guys first Kickboxing match ever. Bryon McCroskey & Ryan Lose have been official GR fighters for a while now and both have lots of MMA fight expereince but this will be Kevin's debut for the team. Rhalan Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seminar

On Saturday, November 6, the eldest son of Master Relson Gracie will be conducting a two hour jiu-jitsu seminar at the Griffonrawl MMA Academy. Rhalan most recently won the 2010 Copa America absolute Gi division in March. This will mark the first time Rhalan will be conducting a seminar at the academy and we expect a solid turnout.

NAAFS "Caged Fury 12"

On Saturday, October 9, 2010 the NAAFS will host Caged Fury 12 at the historic Gray's Armory in Cleveland, Ohio. This event will feature the majority of the national amateur semi-final bouts and Team Griffonrawl will be there, once again.
Landon Khakdoust, John Burbol, and George Comer will be on the card. George, the 2009 Lightweight Champion, will step UP in weight to replace his injured teammate at welterweight to face the undefeated Nick Kilian.

Griffonrawl Victory Celebration!

GriffonRawl MMA Academy, in conjunction with Intimidation Clothing, will be hosting a team celebration party this coming Wednesday night, September 15,2010. We will be celebrating the success of the GR fighters in the last four fight shows we have competed in. Team GriffonRawl has gone 8-2 displaying all of their hard work and training.
We will be watching live fights on Spike TV followed by the premier of The Ultimate Fighter 12. Pizza will be provided. We are asking that everyone bring either a drink or dish to share or $5.00 to help cover the expenses. Sorry, no alcoholic beverages will be permitted on the premises.

Relson Gracie "Seminar"

GriffonRawl MMA Academy, in conjuction with the Lake County Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Association, is pleased to announce a seminar led by Master Relson Gracie on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 11am to 1pm at the GriffonRawl MMA Academy in Mentor, Ohio. Gi, no-gi, and MMA techniques will be covered. Proper training attire is expected.

Relson is the second eldest son of the late Grandmaster Helio Gracie. He began learning jiu-jitsu at the tender age of two and was competing by age ten. He reigned as Brazilian National Champion for 22 consecutive years and was entirely undefeated during this period. His popularity grew, and he soon became known to many as “Campeao,” or “Champion.” In 1988, Relson moved to Hawaii to introduce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to the Aloha State. This is the only time Relson will be at the academy this year, so its an opportunity you will not want to miss.

Tommy Judd and Dan Farnworth are set for featherweight action, while Landon Khakdoust is set to compete at welterweight. Lightweight Bryon McCroskey will be competing for the UMMAXX amateur title! NAAFS "Rock N Rumble 2010"

On Saturday, August 28, 2010 the NAAFS will host its annual event at Nautica Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. Donny 'Eagle Eye' Walker is the lone Griffonrawl warrior on the card, competing in the co-main event for the NAAFS Pro-Series Featherweight title! Donny will be taking on the always game, Mike Nesto. Mike and Donny are the lone survivors from the NAAFS featherweight tournament. Originally scheduled for Fight Night in the Flats, it has been rescheduled for the 28th. Matt 'The Immortal' Brown "Seminar"

On the eve of NAAFS' Rock N Rumble, Team Griffonrawl is proud to host an MMA seminar with Matt 'The Immortal' Brown. On Friday, August 27, 2010, Matt will conduct two seminars. The first will be for those who have had no MMA fights (intermediate) and the second will be for those with at least one MMA fight (experienced). A large turnout is expected for both sessions, so advanced registration is strongly suggested. GriffonRawl Junior MMA "Day Camp"

GriffonRawl Jr. MMA Day Camp – August 2nd – August 6th

9am - 1pm Daily
GriffonRawl Jr. MMA Day Camp is for all kids between the ages of 7 and 14.
We will offer specialized instruction in various Martial Art techniques taught by Four time UFC Fighter and Ultimate Fighter Jason “Dynamite” Dent and other Professional and Amateur fighters from the Academy. This program is designed to teach your child important life skills such as focus, confidence, teamwork, discipline, fitness and self-defense. We will place a strong emphasis on thinking first and fighting as a last resort for defense only.
We will participate in traditional day camp activities such as relay races, dodge ball, and other team building games to promote teamwork. We'll provide drinks for the day; you will need to bring a healthy lunch. Our staff is highly qualified and loves working with kids. Positive reinforcement and validation are values we have instilled in our staff and will promote in your children.
We offer Early drop off at 8:30am. You may book by the week or the day. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today!

Jr. MMA Day Camp Schedule
*Each day will begin with a series of warm-ups and stretches as well as a light group run.

*We will end each day with various games including dodge ball and PS3. The only PS3 games that will be permitted will be UFC Undisputed 2010 and Fight Night Round 4.

*Jason Dent will be conducting all of the classes as well as other GR instructors and professional GR fighters.


Monday – Boxing will be the art of the day. We will be covering everything from footwork, head movement, proper technique on the six basic punches, putting together combinations, how to use the speed and heavy bags and last but not least some controlled sparing.

Tuesday – Muay Thai will be the art of the day. We will be covering everything from footwork, head movement, blocking, proper techniques for throwing kicks, knees, elbows, and punches, sparing combinations, the use of thai pads and thai bags and last but not least some controlled sparing.

Wednesday – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will be the art of the day. Students will not be required to wear a Gi; however we will be going over the benefits of training with a Gi. We will be covering everything from positioning, guard recovery, transitioning, submission offense, submission defense, and last but not least some controlled free rolling.

Thursday – Judo/Wrestling will be the arts of the day. We will be covering all kinds of takedowns, as well as take down defenses. We will teach students how to get and defend takedowns both using a cage and out in the open.

Friday – MMA will be the focus of the day. We will be primarily
focusing on how to put all of the arts we have been studying together
effectively. We will be evaluating GR fight team footage both Pro and
amateur and breaking down the action in detail. If the students are not
too sore at this point in the week we will vote on whether to free roll or
spar. We will provide a pizza lunch on Friday to celebrate everyone’s
hard work. We will also be having a water balloon fight so come
prepared to get wet.

OGC "2nd Submission Challenge"

We always encourage our members to remain active outside the academy and on Saturday, August 7th, the Ohio Grappling Challenge is hosting its "2nd Submission Challenge." This is a submission ONLY event, and is open ONLY TO ADULT competitors.

NAAFS "War on the Shore 4"

The NAAFS returns to Geneva, Ohio for exciting MMA action at The Cove in Geneva for "the summers biggest bash." Griffonrawl has traditionally been well represented at this event, and 2010 is no exception.

The card is highlighted by two undefeated men squaring off in the lightweight division. The 2009 NAAFS Amateur Lightweight Champion, George Comer leads a contingent of Griffonrawl warriors. George is fighting Al Pacosky in the main event of the evening. Also on the card is George Murphy (135lbs) and Nick Albrecht (145lbs) who are making their MMA debuts. Veterans John Burbol (185lbs), Dan Farnworth (145lbs), and Matt Hopkins (170lbs) are also slated for action.

The regions biggest event is once again headlined by Griffonrawl head coach, Jason 'Dynamite' Dent, as he takes on Strong Style's Chris 'The Assassin' Lozano. Also on the card in their final amateur bouts are Bryon McCroskey, who takes on Joey 'The Hitman' Holt at 155lbs. Reggie Parks is set for action against Bill Morsetti at 170lbs.

Gray "The Bully" Maynard MMA Seminar

GR is proud to announce a seminar with undeafeted UFC lightweight top contender Gray "The Bully" Maynard. The seminar will be held on Sunday April 18th 2010. Gray joins the ever growing list of world famous fighters and instructors that we have had the privledge of conducting seminars with here at GR.
